Independent Indigenous Tourism Operators of Queensland was built by and for Indigenous family businesses who wanted a peak body that walked beside them, not above them. We support Indigenous operators to build sustainable tourism businesses, protect cultural integrity, and claim the space they deserve in one of Queensland’s most important industries. IITOQ is committed to the Queensland Government’s Destination 2045 plan, working toward a tourism industry that delivers richer visitor experiences, stronger Indigenous economies, and more jobs in communities across the state.
The Dreamings
Queensland is not one Country. It’s five; each with its own ancient language, Lore, and landscape.
IITOQ organises its work and its membership across Queensland’s five Regional Dreamings: Saltwater, Desert, Freshwater, Island and Rainforest. Think of the five Dreamings as a hand: each is a finger with its own unique fingerprint. Each offers signature Indigenous-led experiences without repetition, giving visitors a reason to travel further across our state and stay longer.
