QLD Regional Dreamings

Queensland has an abundance of these natural icons’. Natural icons, such as, Saltwater, Freshwater, Rainforest, Desert, and Island Dreaming's, each with their own unique language and Lore.

The 'Dreaming 'refers to the historical and ongoing walking within the Lore by those that call these places ‘Home’.

Regional Dreaming’s are defined as places and spaces of great importance to the original inhabitants of a location. We do not define our boundaries through States and Territories. Rather, our boundaries are defined through the many intertwining Songlines of our Dreaming’s, woven through story, either spoken and illustrated or through song and dance. Narratives that prescribe the rules for living (The Lore) as well as providing explanations of the creation and existence of the natural world that we have mostly and historically, referred to as The Land.

We at IITOQ, identify these five Regional Dreaming’s based on these natural icons within our framework of delivery. If you can imagine these as a hand, then conceptualise each Dreaming as one finger of the hand, with its own unique individual fingerprint. Each Dreaming offers the potential for signature Indigenous led tourism experiences to be presented without repetition to visitors, that will be conducive to offering visitors a greater scope of travel across our state and a longer stay than has previously been the norm. If achieved, all stakeholders benefit.
